And he went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
Matthew 4:23
Gospel means “good news”.
When I think of news, I think of stories and reports about places and people, and a lot of times it is negative, and sometimes it is positive. But gospel is good.
When the Bible talks about the gospel, it is referring to good news and only good news. It’s not bad news ever. Christ proclaimed good news. He proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God. Which means Christ proclaimed good stories, reports, and information about and from the heavenly realm. Christ proclaimed good news and reports about the people and places of the kingdom of God, which first and foremost means, he proclaimed good news about God.
What was one thing that Christ majorly proclaimed about God? He proclaimed God as healer. In this particular moment, the Bible says that Christ healed every single disease and affliction among the people. God is a healer, and Christ proclaimed it in his actions.
How can I proclaim good news of the kingdom, too? What good stories, reports, and information about the heavenly realm and about God can I proclaim? This is what I have to think about when I am commanded to preach the gospel of Christ. When Christ commands us to preach the gospel, he is commanding us to preach the good news about who God is and the good news about the unseen, heavenly realm.
If we don’t know who God is and we have no connection with the heavenly realm, it will be difficult to preach the good news of the kingdom of God. Thus, we must pray and ask God to show himself to us, so that we know his reality, in just the right way in which we need him to show himself to us so that we are not in doubt about his reality. (God is not a wicked God, by the way, that he would leave us in doubt about his reality.) Also, we must study the Bible – specifically Christ in the Gospel books – so that we know who God is. When we know him, we will know how to proclaim and preach him.
God is faithful to show us who he is, and he is faithful to fill us with the Holy Spirit, if and when we ask.
Prayer
God, help me to know who you are and to know your reality. Fill me with the Holy Spirit continually. Help me, so that I can know how to preach and proclaim the good news of the kingdom – the good news of who you are. Help me so that I can proclaim the good stories, reports, and information from the reality of the heavenly realm. Amen.
