It’s God’s Good Pleasure to Meet Your Needs

God gave us life in order to enjoy it. We are meant to enjoy our basic needs of daily bread, safety and health, and fellowship with God and people. But these things can only be enjoyed to the fullest within God’s reality and standards.

Christ, when he went into the wilderness to fast and pray, was tempted by Satan to get these three basic needs and joys in a perverted and corrupt manner. But before that temptation, in each scenario, he tried to get Christ to doubt his identity.

Satan tempts us in the same way he tempted Christ. He makes us doubt who we are and who God made us to be – makes us doubt that God exists and that we are the sons and daughters of God. (And there are all kinds of implications in being a son or daughter of God, by the way, including gender implications.) And, satan tempts us to try to get us to meet our basic needs in perverted and corrupt ways.

God wants to give us all that we need in this life – it is his good pleasure to give us the kingdom. And in fact, Christ told us how to pray, for all that we need, in the prayer he taught the disciples. But, we have to seek him and know his reality. We have to receive salvation and his grace. We have to receive and ask for the Holy Spirit, and seek after Christ and allow him to set our identities straight according to how he created us. It is only when we do that, that “all these things will be added unto” us.
